A man who had great impact on the club and remembered by many

A robust, flamboyant man. A joy to have known.
- David Cawthorn (Vice President)

Leicester Westleigh Hockey club are sorry to announce that David Brooks has passed away. David has been a Vice-President of the club for many years and has contributed greatly as both a player, supporter and in many managerial positions throughout his life.

His aggressive attitude towards the game put the fear of God into team mates, opponents and umpires alike. Whilst not suffering fools gladly, he had an endearing quality that gained admiration from friend and foe alike.

From a Hockey point of view, he was a much under-rated player and he could well have been successful at a higher level. David served his beloved Leicester Westleigh Hockey Club and his County, Leicestershire, well both on and off the field.

He played well into veteran age and was always there to give advice to both young players and umpires. He frequently had unscheduled rests during a game, often behind his team’s goal, but that reflected his passion for the game and the joy he had playing it.

Now he has passed on to pitches new we shall miss him so dearly. Our thoughts go to his family and friends at this difficult time.

Words provided by David Cawthorn.
