The first free U7s session took place this past Sunday morning, and it was everything we hoped it would be! Lots of young beginners who were all so eager to give hockey a go, even if they were a bit nervous to start off with. All the children received a stick, a pair of shin pads, and a gum shield just for them to use – with fun colours they were able to pick out themselves.

Once everyone was equipped with their new kit, we started on the basics of hockey: holding the stick and dribbling the ball. Starting nice and easy, we focused on hand positions on the hockey sticks and then taking a few steps with the ball – which everyone absolutely smashed first time! We carried on with more movement exercises, with the help of some of our Westleigh young leaders, until everyone was jogging and even running with the ball!

It was an amazing first session to run as a coach and we can’t wait to see these new hockey players again next Sunday! Thank you to the parents for bringing their little ones and thank you to the Westleigh young leaders for their help.
