Juniors shine through once again!

Westleigh juniors participated in their first tournament of the season in Loughborough. Many teams entered from across the county and what a day it turned out to be! These were some of the first games for so many of our players and it was well overdue. We had local games hosted by Loughborough Town for U8s , 10s and 12s.

Under 8s
This was amazing! The most amount of teams on the day and a chance for last seasons Hockey Heroes participants to play some games. Well with such enthusiasm it was no surprise that Westleigh got off to a great start and kept going. All players played fantastically and it's all about fun and goals. WOW did they do that! Maxwell scored two hat-tricks on the day and many others were involved in the goals. U8s smashed it winning all 5 games.

U12s
With only two teams it meant longer games. Some know veterans of this age supporting new players in Ocean, Kowen and Arlo. Westleigh were dominant all the way but didn’t realise that Loughborough had such a good Goal Keeper. He was amazing making us work very hard for our goals. Sadly, we didn’t defend at all due to the forward pressure and Ewan forgot he was playing at the back. Sam Luck only 9 facing a 2 v 1 Loughborough score. Isaak soon got us back level and Westleigh had some penalty corners. We played 4 quarters and in the end we did find a way past the keeper. All players showed great skill. Arlo showing great passing Ideas and Emma all over the pitch. Ocean was a little nervous but kept the ball up top for Isaak to at last keep calm and beat the keeper. Player of the match - Isaak!

U10s
With 3 games to play and Ashby being two of them. We were expecting a tough day. First game was Ashby Boys. It didn’t take long to see who was going to lead the line for Westleigh - Jake Harris was everywhere and doing everything including scoring. He was supported well with all the other players so not just a solo show. Then William Fay entered the matches so know two threats on the pitch. No team today could handle Westleigh and goals came from all angles through Jake, William and Kowen. Poor Sam Luck in goal hardly had anything to do. Westleigh had to move players back as games went on such was the strength. It all matters - goals give confidence and the skill to beat so many players to get a shot was amazing. Player of the match Jake Harris - no idea how many goals!

What a great day of sport!
