Westleigh's Turn to Play Host!

This month was Westleigh’s turn to host the Leicestershire Mini Games. With lots of helpers from Westleigh, the games were set up quick and all the players got moving.

U8s

Teams from Ashby x 4 , Leicester City , Loughborough Town x 2 and Westleigh it was a great turnout. Well we got loads of fun, energy and some great hockey. All teams were fantastic and it really was not all about winning but just playing. That said this time Westleigh didn’t have a clean sweep time. Westleigh started slowly and lost their first game. However, now focused Westleigh then switched on and never looked back. They played some fantastic hockey winning all of the remaining games! There were lots of goals scored and everyone in the team contributed.

U12s

With some clubs having U12s in the England cup rounds it was another game between Loughborough Town and Westleigh. Westleigh had some new players this time. With some football off we had Eddie, Lyla and Alethea. The game was a bit one sided with Westleigh having the most of the ball and Lyla very new to the club showing she has a great future. Close friend Alethea was the key to the great play and again we can’t wait to see her hockey future. All 4 girls today will add to our new side. Loughborough did get at Westleigh at times as well and to be commended on their hockey.

U10s

Teams - Ashby Girls , Ashby boys, Leicester City, Loughborough Town and Westleigh.
After the first games at Loughborough, everyone had their money on Jake Harris scoring buckets of goals again. Today, he found it much harder as each team were better and with keepers. We also had a new keeper with Sam Luck already being promoted to the U12s up stepped young Archie. Westleigh never lost a game didn’t even concede a goal. This was a big team performance with Jake and Albie leading the attack, but today it really was all the team. Dave umpired all but one of their games and he thought they were great in defence as well. Not that many got near apart from Ashby boys. Again today, is about playing - no medals but it's worth saying the U10s won it today not losing a game and only drawing 1.

Remember these games are for new players to get to learn the game and all teams were great and much improved from the first games at Loughborough. If Westleigh can get enough players on the 27th Feb in the teams, we stand a good chance of doing well.

Well done to the coaches which include leaders Prisha and Finlay.
Last notes go to the helpers today. Regimented timings by Ryan. Great support from coaches but special notes go to Prisha , Jonny and Finlay for the setting up, coaching and lots of Umpiring.

Next games are the 13th February at Ashby and the County cup on the 27th February.
