A strong end to a strong season

Today in fantastic sunshine Leicester Westleigh Under 14s went against the best of the rest of Tier 3 hockey. The only other team from our county was our know arch-rivals Ashby.

The day started well with a 2-0 win against Stratford the forward line linking well all the training paying off, at last after missed chances Toby got his eye and bagged two. First win the lads have had and should have been more goals.

Next was Epsom and again we dominated however failed to score. We lost 1-0 after some mistakes from the midfield and forward players. At the back William and Harry were performing miracles, every ball from the back being cleared with confidence and pace. Not content with just keeping the back safe both attacked with purpose helping out the forward line.

This left Westleigh in second place on goal difference so meant harder teams in the knockout stages. But with new confidence they wanted to take them on. First Teddington again a very close match but lost 1-0. It does not fairly show the result Westleigh were worthy of a draw or better. This is a club with 500 juniors.

Last game coach gave a bit of team talk to the midfield / strikers it didn't work maybe one game to far and strong opposition from Liverpool. Last game a 5-1 for loss but the short corner routine worked. We also had main strikers missing but team took it on and the difference at the start of the competition is amazing.

All players have achieved so much. We have a 12 year old center and 3 players who it is pretty much is their season. For some Harry, Finn and Rilley they will fight again next year whilst others may move on the Badgers or senior teams.

I thank you all for your effort , dedication , Fun. You are the reason why myself and the team do this for nothing. I also thank the parents the mad wives that at times show me a raised eyebrow to calm down. All this makes a club to be proud off.

Next last couple of training but you will be invited to the summer league hockey. A break from me and to play with the first team. Its just turn up and play.

Today I am going to pick one player out , it was close but William gets man of the match today great defending and big change pushing forwards. Harry you close both played great.

Again thank all that have played and the parents we are blessed with a very good bunch it does make it better with support. It was great today.
