As Westleigh hockey club keeps growing and the want to get more professional, the club decided to get a local star coach, who recently ran the fantastic Summer Camps, in to run a course. You could see how his skills as a professional coach rubbed off on senior coaches and junior Leaders. Rather than just the club coach going off on a workshop, the club decided to bring the workshop to the club. The night was even helped by a good number of the junior academy players to be the coached for the night.

The course included key learning aims of coaching in any sport, great fun warm ups rather than just running, putting all on the spot to take a skill / game idea and come up with a session in minutes. Lots of great feedback from other coaches but also the players. The junior leaders were pushed to the front on these, but the older seniors also learnt lots.

Then at the end, some key core skill break downs and maybe a change in mindset that its ok for players to explore using reverse stick early and nothing is wrong if it's safe.

It was a great night and will only help the coaching team build better sessions in the future.
