U8 and U10 Rugby Hockey Tournament

After two weeks of frozen off hockey, Westleigh juniors were keen to get out on the pitch and play! The juniors travelled to Rugby with three teams for the U8s and two teams for the U10s. Westleigh were up against some huge, established hockey clubs this tournament such as Northampton Saints, Rugby & East Warwickshire and Towcester.

All three U8 teams put on a great display of hockey; tackling hard and passing the ball well, with lots of goals being scored. The feistiest match was perhaps the match where two Westleigh teams had to play each other – great to see the competitiveness of the players come out like this.
U10s next and after a bright warm up of girls v boys American Football (much to the surprise of the opposition parents watching!) the games began. Westleigh won 4 out of 6 matches with some special mentions to our year 3 players who were playing up an age group for this first time on a very big pitch! The U10s were very competitive with some amazing last-minute saves on the goal-line by the defenders and some super team goals (straight from the training ground – thanks coaches!)

As a coaching group, we are all so proud of the players, they have all tried really hard and were not daunted in the slightest playing in a big hockey tournament in another County. Hopefully we have made some new friends at these clubs and look forward to playing them all again. It wont be long to wait though as Towcester already invited us to play in their tournament in January!
