Today was the first outing for Westleigh 3s against a new team Loughborough Carillion. We had no idea what we would face but had a very strong squad. The opposition was pretty much the Loughborough Grammar School team, one good adult and huge keeper (he changed at half time). Words from the captain be careful they will be very good on the ball well drilled. This proved to be the case and the game was very even. Great spells for Westleigh with the trio of Arron , Joe and Hugo. But sadly all this good work didn't link through to the strikers. There young team had no fear and at times we were chasing shadows. I feel no one thought they would be so good or put everything in due to there size. But play they did and used the all the pitch a coaches dream. Back to us and with our attacks getting better again with the trio we got the ball in and the monster keeper could only keep it out twice before Oliver put it away. This led to some calm and good play. But they showed there spirit getting a goal back before half time and well deserved.
Second half and after some words things got a little better but still ball speed from all were poor. But better we pressed on Riley Murphy showing the team what to do by keeping the ball on your STICK did some great link up play. He had a great chance on his reverse only met by a brave defence block. The game flowed either way with Westleigh maybe being more physical towards the end and after great work from the Trio Joe popped the ball up in the air and Riley showed his fast hands and kit in the air to score the 3rd.
Man of the Match: Arron huge effort and some good hockey.
Dod: Dave couldn't get in the game.
Training
Lots to work on first touch , staying in the game, keeping it simple far to much on reverse and band ball speed. Great we got the win I believe we all suffered mentaly that we couldn't play our game as they were so small. Move on
Next week Ashby Away meet 13.45 Ivanhoe college.
