Much awaited game after a thrashing away at Boots with a very weak side. Today on paper much stronger for Westleigh. Game started with Boots coming quick onto Westleigh with many players asleep. Nothing came of this and Westleigh did straight the other way and nearly scored. This would be the pattern but it was Boots who took the lead after a mistake from Westleigh. This also would be the pattern that silly mistakes, decisions and some crazy thinking let Boots have an easy ride. Westleigh did get level after some better play and it was Mark who wobbled past the defence and shot to the corner. Westleigh picked up a bit with Jack and Ali linking up much better. Ryan once he had free space got forwards fast. Sometimes should have passed base line to lead for the return in the D. Half time was not a happy place with the skipper being forceful with his comments.
Well, something worked second half for the first 15 minutes Westleigh had all the play but the boots keeper who was superb kept Boots in the game. This pressure sadly didn’t result in the goals deserved and Boots came back into the game and the mistakes returned. Very frustrating not linking together and not looking before passing. Boots then did get their 2nd -another mistake. Westleigh did go again though and with some better control and passing had more linked passes with Jake getting further forward and putting great balls into the D sadly not coming to goals. Again, the Boots keeper kept going. Jack thought he had scored on a short corner went wrong but the ball fell in front of him which he roofed into the net, not allowed first strike. Lesson learnt. Westleigh did get the second when Ali who had many chances smashed the ball at the far post for Jack to be there and deflect into the roof of the net. Some say he nicked the goal. As coach, I say fantastic about time someone was there. With minutes to go, Westleigh again failed to do basic things right keeping the ball and another horrid reverse flick pass into nowhere was smashed up the pitch leaving a 1 v 1 with Garin who played very well but this time the ball found the net. Seconds to go, same thing great long ball to Ryan who couldn’t beat the ever-solid Boots keeper.

Fair result would have been a draw. We did play some good stuff at times but mistakes cost us.
