Westleigh 3rd XI fight back for a draw

So first league match off the back of some good pre season games.

First up for Westleigh 3rd XI were Westbridgeford 9ths at home. To our surprise, Westbridgeford's teams had many adults, unlike our youthful squad, so we knew we were in for a tough game. The main action was taken by the away team with the experience adults showing great ball speed and accuracy. This took the midfield of Westleigh by surprise and they struggled to cope. It took some time for the home team to settle on the ball but when they did the passing and skill of the young players came through. Toby 13 striker did a great job and unlucky not to score. He was flanked by similar young players Finn and Lachlan, new this year but already showing great promise. This forward line soon won a short corner bad ball out but captured by the skipper who planted it perfectly just inside the post. After this, the game flowed well but with the away team picking up goals from short corner, poor marking and giving the ball away cheaply.

At half time the skipper was not happy, he knew we can do better passing but we were trying to force the pass. The second half was very open with the home team taking full advantage. Still the odd counter but Westliegh went for it passing much better and after the skipper decided to leave the defense and move up to link the play. A shout top D from him, which was played great by Finn, dumied by Lachlan, to leave Dave skipper with a clean strike boom back in the game. Westleigh rather than sit back went full out maybe not enough fire power but at last the young players helped by Mark new to the team found a way to the goal. 3-3 not a bad result from 3-1 down.

Men of the match drawn Lachlan great energy and skill and William who gets little mention but in the second half stepped up and cut out the attacks.
